Our founder holds a real estate closing agent license issued by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, and has personally closed well over 2,000 real estate transactions for lenders over the course of his career.

We conduct a comprehensive background check every single year — not once at hire. Our background check is renewed annually and the current certificate is maintained on file at all times.

Background check results are available to attorney clients upon request. We believe transparency about this builds the trust that a long-term working relationship requires.

Licensed Minnesota Notary Public

North Star’s founder holds an active Minnesota Notary Public commission, issued by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Notarial services are available for document acknowledgment, signature witnessing, and jurat execution.

In bankruptcy practice, this means one less scheduling call when documents require notarization during case preparation. Many attorneys have experienced the frustration of coordinating notarization for supporting documents — we eliminate that friction.

HIPAA-Compliant Client Intake

Client intake at North Star is handled through Jotform’s HIPAA Business Associate Agreement tier — the same security standard required in healthcare. This means client financial data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access-controlled, and subject to a documented BAA.

Your client’s Social Security number, financial account details, and home address are never transmitted via unencrypted email. They are submitted through a secured Jotform portal with verifiable HIPAA-level protections.

Many national VBA services collect client intake via email PDF attachments — a practice that exposes sensitive data. We do not. Our intake process is defensible if your firm is ever audited for data handling practices.

Minnesota Local — District Specialist

National VBA services prepare petitions for courts across 50 states and 94 federal districts. They treat the District of Minnesota the same as every other district. We don’t.
